Can The Rookie‘s Officer John Nolan survive “The Curse of the Last Shift,” ahead of his wedding to Bailey?

All whilst a murderous criminal “mastermind” is in the loose?

That’s the big question in a new trailer for Season 6 of the light ABC procedural, which was first shared by our sister site Variety.

In The Rookie‘s Season 6 premiere, airing Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 9/8c (where it will now lead out of Will Trent), in the aftermath of the assaults they endured in the Season 5 finale, the Mid-Wilshire Division team must try to understand why they were targeted and if there is a bigger plan in place. Nolan (played by Nathan Fillion), meanwhile, must survive his last shift before his wedding to Bailey (Jenna Dewan).

To recap, The Rookie’s Season 5 finale alone revolved around a band of masked marauders who landed in the LAPD’s crosshairs after shooting Thorsen in the back. When the LAPD’s prime suspect wound up choosing suicide by cop, Nolan wondered how that man could have had the money or means to recruit elite mercs to attack Nolan and Bailey at home and near-kidnap Nyla and James’ daughter. The scene then cut to a well-dressed passenger (played by Bruun) in an Escalade, as he laughed at the LAPD’s all-out response to an event that is “away from our target.”

“And by the time they realize the damage we’ve done,” he gloated, “we’ll be long gone.”

Elsewhere in that finale, a very expectant Angela and Wes worked to solve a major puzzle clue at the hospital before welcoming a baby girl.

On the casting front for Season 6, TVLine reported exclusively that Danielle Campbell (of The Originals and Tell Me a Story) will fill the recurring guest star role of Blair, a psychiatrist for the LAPD, while Lisseth Chavez is now a series regular as Officer Celina Juarez.
