Nathan Fillion is beloved by sci-fi nerds everywhere for his role in Joss Whedon’s short-lived series Firefly and the follow-up film, Serenity. And his geek cred only increases with roles in Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and voiceover work on The Venture Brothers, Robot Chicken, Justice League, and Halo. Perhaps fans can sense that he is one of them, obsessing over the details and more obscure names, as he did in this exclusive interview with CultureMob, talking about Monkey Shines and Spider-Man.

Fillion currently stars in ABC’s Castle (Mondays, 10PM), playing a mystery writer shadowing a detective under the pretense of researching his books. The show is in its third season, and has been a hit for ABC, due in no small part to Fillion’s charm and his chemistry with co-star Stana Katic.

We got to speak with Fillion by phone recently, when explained he Richard Castle’s motives and revealed the status of a Doctor Horrible sequel.

Well, yes, but then you want to be closest without going over, in which case you would have lost.

So how much more research do you think Richard Castle needs to do before he can write Nikki Heat on his own?
We actually addressed that in the show. He’s got enough research to write books for a long, long time. He’s not in it for the research anymore. We know this about him.
