Nathan Fillion Online
Your first and ultimate online resource for talented actor, Nathan Fillion.

Firefly star Nathan Fillion recently discussed the possibilty of playing the DC superhero Booster Gold, a role for which he has been considered a fan favorite for years.

Ever since a Booster Gold film was even mentioned, Fillion’s name was thrown into the hat by fans. This isn’t surprsing though, as Fillion has been fan favorite for numerous comic book and video game characters since his role in the show Firefly. The actor recently made one of those fan castings come to life when he played Nathan Drake in a fan film based on the Uncharted video game franchise.

Fillion paired with Canadian director Allan Ungar to fund and produce what is known as a “fan film,” a movie featuring pop culture properties that has no official connection to its source material’s copyright holders — in this case, publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Naughty Dog. It was made solely out of the pair’s love of the Nathan Drake character and a desire to create the movie they — and apparently millions of others — had long wanted.

Post Arcade had a chance to chat with the duo in San Diego via phone for a few moments before the doors officially opened at Comic-Con on Thursday morning. Humbled by their film’s initial popularity, the pair talked about how their movie came to be, the similarities Fillion sees between himself and the character of Nathan Drake, and whether this little fan film was just a one-off or if it could potentially grow into something more.

  • Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog Reunion (10AM–11AM, Hall H)

2008 also marked the launch of a weird digital media project from Joss Whedon: Dr. Horrible’s Singalong Blog, which followed Neil Patrick Harris’ Dr. Horrible as he aspired to become a supervillain. With this year’s anniversary, Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Felicia Day, and Maurissa Tancharoen will be on hand to talk about the project.

A fan film based on that swashbuckling, tomb-raiding franchise was released online on Monday, starring Nathan Fillion as Nathan Drake, and directed by Allan Ungar, a filmmaker from Toronto.

Ungar, like many, he loved the franchise from when he was in school, and thought that Fillion belonged in the role. He started working on his own films, and after deriving some inspiration from previous video-game fan films also made by professionals that made splashes — Kevin Tancharoen’s Mortal Kombat: Rebirth in 2010, Joseph Kahn’s Power/Rangers in 2015 — Ungar approached the veteran TV star and there was mutual interest. The film was shot in May in California.
