For Nathan Fillion fans hoping to seen the actor cameo in the MCU again, it looks like he may not show up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While the sequel hasn’t hit theaters quite yet, James Gunn is already beginning work on Guardians 3, which will wrap up the story of our roguish heroes so far. In between now and then, the galactic gang will also head off to help defeat Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. When they do, they’ll be joined by a number of new teammates. Sadly, Fillion won’t be one of them.

Thanks to his work with Joss Whedon, Fillion has become a fan-favorite in genre media. As such, viewers were delighted when he popped up in a brief cameo in the first Guardians film. Though unrecognizable, he played a bulky alien who the Guardians encounter when they first get to the Kyln. Thanks to the CGI, that left Fillion free to appear as a future character in the MCU. And while many have hoped to see his face as a key character from the comics, it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer.

Fillion took to Instagram to post a photo of himself in costume on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, looking like a sort of space viking at the helm of a ship. For comics fans, the character of Arkon, best know from Weirdworld, will immediately jump to mind. Check out the photo out below:

From a scene you won’t see in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Is the movie still spectacular without it? Yes.

There’s no telling what the scene would have entailed, but the shot above makes it seems as though clips or trailers from the fake movies would have been shown. It also would have established Williams in the MCU, leaving the door open for the fan-favorite hero to appear in the future in his superhero guise. While it’s a shame we won’t see the full scene on screen, it does mean Fillion may still have a future in the MCU. It also looks as though the footage was fairly complete, so expect to see it show up on the home video release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
